Fatima Devotions

Fatima Devotions

The visions and messages of Our Lady to the Children at Fatima, all reinforce the practice of the most important traditional devotions of Catholics.

Our Lady insisted on the daily saying of the Rosary, and in devotion to her Immaculate Heart. The Blessed Virgin appeared with St Joseph, reinforcing devotion to the St Joseph and the Holy Family.

In another vision Our Lady appeared as Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the Carmelite scapular, reinforcing the brown scapular devotion.

The Blessed Virgin insisted on the consecration of individual Catholics to her Immaculate Heart. She wished to establish the First Saturday devotions. She insisted on the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart.

Time and again in the apparitions Our Lady requested reparations to be made to her Immaculate Heart for the effect of our sins and the sins of others.

And the devotion to the Immaculate Heart is intertwined with devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the consecration of Catholics to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the wearing of the Miraculous Medallion, the practice of First Fridays, and making reparation for the sins against the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Both devotions - to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus - were growing in popularity and intensity throughout the 19th Century, and considered by the Church as most essential to the growth in holiness and protection of Catholics, in times of great trial.

All these devotions of Fatima form a united front in the life of devout Catholics. And they all have their foundation in the lives of Saints in the Middle Ages and even earlier in the life of the lives of the faithful.
