In 1925 in the convent of the Sisters of Dorothy, Sister Lucia experienced another apparition of Our Lady. Our Lady revealed to Lucia her heart surrounded by thorns. She explained to Lucia that her heart suffered by the blasphemies and ingratitude of mankind.
You at least try to console me.
I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for salvation all those who, on the First Saturday of five consecutive months, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.
How to console Our Lady? Do what Our Lady asks:
- Be in a state of grace.
- Go to Confession on the First Saturday, or if inconvenient at that time, go to Confession within eight days either before or after the First Saturday.
- Go to Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion on the First Saturday.
- Recite five decades of the Rosary of Our Lady at a convenient time or place on the First Saturday.
- Spend at least 15 minutes keeping Our Lady company by meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary with the intention of offering reparation for offences against her. This may be done at any time or place on the First Saturday.
- Do all of the above for five consecutive First Saturdays.
Why Five Saturdays?
Our Blessed Lord answered that question when He appeared to Sister Lucia on May 29, 1930. He explained that it was because of five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
- Against her Immaculate Conception,
- Against her Perpetual Virginity,
- Against the divine and spiritual Maternity of Mary,
- Involving the rejection and dishonouring of her images,
- Of neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of His Immaculate Mother.
Keeping Our Lady company for those 15 minutes?
The following are some ways one may find helpful in keeping Our Lady company with the intention of making reparation for sins against the Immaculate Heart:
- Make a firm intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
- Choose one of the mysteries of the Rosary and meditate on that particular mystery for that month. Another mystery on another month...
- Perform one's meditation in a church in front of the Blessed Sacrament.
- Read a particular part of Scripture associated with one of the Rosary mysteries.
- Contemplate on a holy image or painting of one of the mysteries of the Rosary.
Gaining a Papal Indulgence during First Friday Devotions?
One may gain a Papal Indulgence in the recitation of the Rosary during the First Friday Devotion, if:
- The conditions of confession and holy communion are met; and
- One recites five decades of the Rosary in a church, or with another; and
- One recites the Rosary for the Holy Father's intentions.
